High cholesterol

LDL targets and statins

Summary

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance your body needs in small amounts. High LDL ("bad") cholesterol builds plaque in your arteries and raises heart attack and stroke risk. Lifestyle changes plus medications like statins can lower LDL substantially. Newer measures like ApoB give an even clearer picture of cardiovascular risk.
